Community Pot Luck Dinner

Join us in welcoming the carvers at the community pot luck dinner in the Mōkau Hall at 6.30pm on Friday 7th April. Let’s give them a taste of Mōkau community spirit.

We have a record number of 60 carvers registered for this national event to be held in the Mōkau Community Hall – it’s a complete sell out! This year’s special guest carver is Stacy Gordine, the lead bone carving tutor at Te Puia in Rotorua. Stacy’s exquisite work is held in both private and public collections in NZ and around the world.

This year the carvers also have the very special privilege of being formally welcomed onto the Maniaroa Marae, an honour for which we are very grateful.

People are coming from all over Aotearoa New Zealand, (even 3 from Australia), to stay and carve in your beautiful village. It is exciting to bring so many gifted artists to Mōkau for the biggest bone carving event in the country. Many of the carvers are bringing family for the Easter break. Let’s give them the warmth and kindness of a classic Mōkau welcome!

Here are some ways in which you can be involved:

• Attend the community dinner on Friday night the 7th of April to welcome our visitors. Bring food and drink and have a good time

• Come to the hall over the weekend to watch the carvers work, view their display items and take the opportunity to purchase your own special piece from your chosen carver

• Billet carvers. Do you have a spare bed, a spare room, caravan or bach? Accommodation is very tight at the moment and we need hospitality

• Morning and afternoon teas – are you proud of your scones or hot cross buns? Our carvers would love to sample them. Drop them into Sheneen who is manning the kitchen
